The Norwegian Pelagic Fishing Course in Week 18
NORWAY
Wednesday, May 08, 2024, 01:00 (GMT + 9)
Still low activity in the sandpiper fishery and modest catches of other species, despite some larger catches of coal mullet.
Blue whiting:
17,645 tonnes registered from 12 different boats. Large parts of the fishing still take place in the Faroe Islands zone, while some have been taken on the "Kanten". It is Faroese boats that have contributed the most to the amount.
Sandeel:
In contrast to the coalfish fishery, the sandeel fishery continues to experience low activity. Several boats, including Danish and Swedish, have tried to locate tobis without success, such as last week.
Smaller catches of several other species have also been reported, including horse mackerel, coastal sprat, mackerel and nvg herring.
Furthermore, there is optimism linked to the weather conditions. With continued fine weather and good temperatures, it is hoped that the mackerel will move closer to the coast, which could open up more fruitful catches.
